Why a hen do doesn’t have to mean sashes and shots
A Hen Do Has to Be Loud, Boozy, and Exhausting - that’s where our minds usually go as soon as we hear hen do 😂
For some people, that's absolutely perfect, but not for everyone.
I recently had the loveliest reminder of this when one of my regular students asked if I'd host a private yoga retreat day for her hen do. Just her and a group of the women closest to her. No cocktail masterclasses - just a day designed around her. And that’s what it should be about!
What a Private Retreat Hen Do Looks Like
It can be however you want it! We kept it simple and meaningful. The kind of day where you arrive feeling a bit frazzled from the week and leave feeling genuinely restored - which is exactly what the run-up to a wedding needs.
We started with brews, time for guests to meet or have a catch up, then the option to apply the bespoke essential oil blend as a gift for everyone (might be useful on the wedding day!) before we moved through a gentle yoga session together, taking our time, with no pressure as always (especially as there were some people in the room who had never practiced yoga before).
There were some light hearted quizzes, some fizz to toast (non alcoholic options too), tasty food, cake.. and just a beautifully chilled atmosphere.
Why More People Are Choosing an Alternative Hen Do
I think there's something shifting. Women are getting better at asking for what we actually want, rather than what we think we're supposed to want.
A hen do is a celebration of a woman, and a moment of transition. So why not mark it in a way that actually honours her? Not who she's supposed to be on a night out, but who she is — the woman her closest friends love.
That's a memory worth keeping.
It's Also Just a Really Lovely Gift
If you're thinking about how to celebrate someone you love - a friend, a sister, a colleague - and you know she'd rather have a meaningful experience than a messy night out, this is worth considering.
Private yoga events for groups here in Cheshire and the wider North West can be tailored entirely around the group - their needs, their pace, what they want to take away. Whether that's a morning of gentle yoga for women, a full day with meditation and time to talk, or something completely bespoke, I'd love to help you create something special.
If a wellness hen do in Cheshire, or anywhere across the North West sounds like exactly what your person needs, feel free to get in touch and we can chat through what that might look like 🌟
